Your Nurse

Born on Labor Day, I guess I was destined to be a labor room nurse.

I originally wanted to be a journalist, but a well-meaning family member discouraged me from that path and I went into nursing instead.

My first five years as a nurse was in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit caring for preterm babies.  After that, I transferred to Labor & Delivery.  In all those years I have been a part of nearly 3000 deliveries and even delivered a baby in a closet once!

I have been a certified childbirth instructor and taught childbirth classes for over twenty years.  I have had the privilege of being a part of the deliveries of many of the couples I have taught in childbirth classes.

I love pregnancy and birth. I love teaching and I love writing about my experiences.  Birth is the most miraculous, amazing event.  Each time I witness a baby being born, I am impressed with the wonder of our bodies, the intricacies of what the baby has to do during delivery and how well everything works together the great majority of the time. There is no doubt to me it is the result of a Divine Design.

I am married with three children.  We have two grandchildren and a beautiful beagle.  These seven people and the dog, plus my faith in the Lord, are the things around which my world revolves.

I spend my time away from the hospital kayaking, making greeting cards and helping my husband in his ministries.  His online devotionals can be seen at The Special of the Day. . .From the Orange Moon Cafe.  We also have a blog we share at Orange Moon Cafe.  I have a separate blog that is not related to pregnancy and childbirth at The Powder Room.  Please visit our sites when you have a chance.
